Fresh Green Bean Casserole
Description
The casserole features green beans cut into ½-inch pieces, blanched until just tender. Red bell pepper adds sweetness and color. The creamy sauce is made by sautéing finely chopped onion and mushrooms in butter, thickened with flour, then enriched with heavy cream, milk, and a splash of soy sauce for depth. Parmesan and cheddar cheeses are stirred into the green beans along with the sauce, creating a rich, cheesy mixture.
The casserole is baked first without the topping to meld flavors, then sprinkled with a crunchy topping of melted butter, panko breadcrumbs, and additional cheddar cheese, and baked longer until the top is browned and bubbly. This provides a pleasant contrast between the creamy interior and crispy topping.
Fresh Green Bean Casserole works well as a warm side dish, especially during fall or holiday meals. It pairs nicely with roasted or grilled meats. The panko topping adds texture that contrasts with the tender beans and creamy sauce, making each bite satisfying.
