Fresh Lemonade
Description
This Fresh Lemonade recipe begins by making a simple syrup from sugar and water heated until dissolved and then chilled. Meanwhile, lemons are juiced to yield about 2 cups of juice, leaving pulp but removing seeds. The lemonade is assembled by mixing the chilled syrup, lemon juice, and additional water to adjust strength and sweetness. Slices of lemon and ice are added for serving and presentation.
The final drink balances the tartness of lemon with sweetness from the syrup, while the added water controls the intensity. The presence of lemon pulp gives texture and natural citrus flavor. Serving it chilled with ice ensures a refreshing quality.
You can adjust the water amount to match your taste preferences, and adding extra ice prevents the lemonade from becoming too diluted as it cools. This method allows a customizable, fresh-tasting homemade lemonade.
Ingredients
- 2 cup granulated sugar
- 4-6 cups water divided
- 2 cups lemon juice around 4 pounds, freshly squeezed
- 2-3 lemon sliced, extra
- 4 cups ice
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 2 cups of the water over medium-high heat. Bring to boil and stir to dissolve sugar completely, then remove from heat. Allow the simple syrup to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until completely chilled.
- Meanwhile, juice enough lemons to get 2 cups of lemon juice. The number of lemons needed will depend on the size of the lemons you have but generally speaking, 4-5 pounds of lemons will do the trick. Remove any seeds from the lemon juice, but leave the pulp. In a pitcher, stir together chilled syrup, the freshly squeezed lemon juice and as much of the remaining water as you want to get the concentration you like best.
- Add sliced lemons and ice to the pitcher for presentation.
Notes
- Adjust water quantities to balance sweetness and tartness to your preference.
- Adding plenty of ice helps keep the lemonade cold without diluting flavor as quickly.
- Leaving the lemon pulp in the juice adds natural texture and flavor.
