Fresh Peach Syrup

Fresh Peach Syrup is made by simmering whole ripe peaches with sugar and water, then allowing the mixture to cool so the peaches can infuse their flavor into the syrup. The result is a naturally sweetened syrup with a delicate peach essence, ideal for drinks or desserts. Straining removes solids for a smooth finish.

Description

The Fresh Peach Syrup recipe starts by combining granulated sugar and water in a saucepan, adding whole pitted peaches. Heating dissolves the sugar and extracts flavor from the fruit. A brief boil develops the syrup consistency, after which the heat is turned off and the mixture is cooled for 1 to 2 hours to enhance flavor infusion.

The syrup captures the ripe peach’s natural sweetness and aroma without added flavorings. Using ripe, fragrant peaches amplifies the depth of flavor. Straining the cooled syrup removes peach solids, leaving a clear, smooth syrup with a vibrant peach essence.

This syrup works well in cocktails, lemonades, iced teas, or over pancakes and desserts. Using peaches with red skin can enhance color, and slicing peaches before simmering intensifies flavor extraction. Storing syrup refrigerated preserves freshness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 cups water divided
  • 4 cups granulated sugar 900g
  • 8 peaches pitted

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan, then add in the whole peaches.
  2. Place the saucepan over a medium flame and stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Bring the mixture the boil, and boil for 2 minutes.
  4. Switch off the heat and allow the syrup cool and let the peaches sit in the cooled syrup for 1-2 hours.
  5. Strain and decant into a container and store the peach simple syrup inside the fridge.

Notes

  • Using ripe peaches ensures a sweeter and more intense syrup flavor.
  • Slice or dice peaches before cooking to increase flavor extraction if desired.
  • Allow peaches to steep in the cooled syrup for at least 1-2 hours to deepen the peach essence.
  • Strain syrup through a fine mesh or cheesecloth for smooth texture without solids.
  • Refrigerate the finished syrup for freshness and color retention.
