Fried Green Beans

Fried Green Beans are coated in a seasoned beer batter and fried until golden and crisp. The batter combines flour, beer, and a blend of salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powders for flavor. These crispy green beans make a crunchy, flavorful appetizer or side dish, garnished with fresh parsley.

Description

To prepare Fried Green Beans, fresh trimmed green beans are first lightly dusted with flour to help the batter adhere. A batter is made from flour mixed with beer and seasonings including salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Each bean is dipped in the batter and fried in hot oil at 375°F in small batches to develop a crunchy coating without overcooking the beans inside.

The frying time of about 3-4 minutes yields a golden crust with tender crisp beans inside. Sprinkling freshly chopped parsley over the fried beans adds freshness and a touch of color. These are best served right away to maintain their crispness.

Using a spider skimmer helps manage frying small batches safely. Maintaining the oil temperature is important to prevent sogginess or burning. Whisking the batter smooth eliminates lumps for uniform coating.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound green beans ends trimmed
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour divided use
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • cooking oil for frying
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped, fresh

Instructions

  1. Heat 3 inches of oil in a deep pot to 375 degrees F.
  2. Coat the green beans in 1/2 cup flour, shaking off any excess.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the remaining cup of flour, beer, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.
  4. Coat each green bean in batter, letting the excess batter drip back into the bowl.
  5. Fry 8-10 green beans at a time until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining green beans.
  7. Sprinkle with parsley, then serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use a spider skimmer to safely lower and retrieve green beans from hot oil during frying.
  • Whisk the batter well to remove lumps for an even coating.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 375°F using a thermometer to ensure crisp frying.
  • Keep the batter bowl close to the oil to quickly transfer battered green beans for frying.
