Description

  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese cut into strips (or string cheese cut in half)
  • 3 egg well beaten (with about 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and cornstarch in a medium-sized bowl. Mix bread crumbs and garlic salt in a separate bowl. 
  2. Dip each stick in egg, then roll in flour. Dip in egg again then roll in bread crumbs.
  3. Place on wax paper and chill for about an hour. 
  4. In a large pan or skillet, heat oil to about 375 degrees (you can also use a deep fryer). Fry chilled cheese sticks in oil until they turn a nice golden brown color. 
  5. Drain on paper towels. Serve with pizza sauce or ranch dressing.

Notes

  • For best results, chill coated mozzarella sticks for about an hour before frying to prevent cheese from leaking.
  • You can use string cheese cut in half as a convenient alternative to cutting fresh mozzarella.
  • Serve the fried sticks immediately with pizza sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
  • To make these in an air fryer, follow air fryer-specific directions for crisp texture with less oil.
