Fried Pickles
Description
This recipe begins with cutting whole pickles into 3/4 inch thick slices to ensure they hold up during frying better than thinner store-bought chips. The slices are dusted in flour before being dipped in a beer-based batter seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powders. The batter clings and forms a crisp coating.
Frying in hot oil at 375°F creates a golden crust around the pickles in about 3-5 minutes per batch. Spacing the frying in manageable batches prevents the oil temperature from dropping, preserving the crisp texture. After frying, fresh chopped parsley is sprinkled for a bright note.
The resulting fried pickles combine the acidity and saltiness of pickles with the airy crunch of the beer batter, offering a textured snack that pairs well with dipping sauces or as a side for burgers or sandwiches.
Maintaining the correct oil temperature and making fresh batter near the frying station improves the ease of cooking and the quality of the crust.
