Fried Ravioli

Fried Ravioli features cheese-stuffed ravioli coated in flour, egg wash, and a seasoned breadcrumb and Parmesan mixture, then cooked until crisp. The combination of a crunchy exterior and a tender, cheesy interior makes it a satisfying appetizer or snack. The recipe offers both air frying and deep frying methods, providing options for different cooking preferences. The seasoned coating enhances the mild cheese filling, while the suggested marinara sauce adds a tangy contrast when served.

Description

Fried Ravioli uses frozen cheese ravioli as its base, breaded in a three-step process: flour coating, egg wash, and a mix of Italian bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. The breading adheres well and crisps up nicely when cooked. The air fryer method involves spraying the coated ravioli with cooking spray and frying at 350°F for 10 minutes, flipped halfway through, for a cleaner cooking approach. Alternatively, deep frying in oil after a freeze period produces a classic crispy bite. The finished ravioli can be garnished with additional Parmesan and parsley, then served with marinara sauce for dipping, balancing the savory fried flavors with acidity.

The fried texture contrasts with the creamy ravioli filling, making it a finger food suitable for parties or casual meals. Preparing and holding the breaded ravioli on a parchment-lined baking sheet helps maintain coating integrity before cooking. The use of garlic powder and Parmesan in the breading mix adds savory depth to the simple cheese filling, making the dish flavorful without complicated seasoning.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 25 ounces cheese ravioli frozen, 1 bag
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk room temperature
  • 2 large egg room temperature
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese grated, plus extra for serving (optional
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • parsley optional, for garnish
  • 1 jar marinara sauce optional, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Set out three wide and deep plates or bowls. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pour the flour in the first plate.
  3. Whisk the eggs and milk on a second plate.
  4. On a third plate, combine bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Coat ravioli with the flour, followed by the egg, and finally, the bread crumb mixture. Set the coated ravioli on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the ravioli. Then, cook them in the air fryer or fry the ravioli in oil.

Air Fryer

  1. Spray breaded ravioli on both sides with cooking spray.
  2. Place the ravioli in a single layer in the basket of your air fryer.
  3. Fry at 350°F for 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
  4. Remove from the air fryer and top with parmesan cheese and parsley (optional). Serve with a side of marinara sauce.

Frying in Oil

  1. Place the pan of breaded ravioli in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  2. When ready, in a large, heavy-bottom pot, heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F.
  3. Working in batches of 3-4, fry the ravioli in the oil for 2-3 minutes. (Please note: You may have to let the oil heat up to 350°F again after each batch of fried ravioli.)
  4. Using a slotted spoon, remove ravioli from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to dry.
  5. Top with parmesan cheese and parsley (optional). Serve with a side of marinara sauce.
