Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars

Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars combine a soft sugar cookie base with a fluffy vanilla frosting tinted with optional blue food coloring and sprinkles. The cookie layer is made by beating butter and sugar, then folding in flour and baking powder for a tender texture baked until edges brown. The frosting is whipped with butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, and milk for a spreadable, sweet topping that complements the simple cookie base.

Description

The recipe begins by creaming softened unsalted butter with granulated sugar until light, then adding vanilla and eggs. Flour, baking powder, and kosher salt are blended in to form a cookie dough that is pressed evenly into a parchment-lined pan. Baking at 350°F for 15-18 minutes produces a cookie layer with lightly browned edges and a soft center.

Once cooled, the frosting is prepared by beating butter and vanilla until fluffy, then adding powdered sugar, a pinch of salt, and milk. This creates a creamy, sweet topping that is colored if desired with gel food coloring. Sprinkles can be added for decoration. The frosting is spread evenly over the cooled base and the bars are cut into squares for serving.

The bars have a balance of soft cookie texture and smooth frosting sweetness. They serve well as a dessert or treat for gatherings. Gel food coloring is preferred for vibrant color without affecting flavor or texture.

Storage recommendations allow keeping frosted bars at room temperature for several days or freezing them to extend shelf life. Freezing requires airtight packaging to preserve freshness and prevent drying out.
