Frozen Corn Treats for Chickens
Description
This recipe uses canned whole kernel corn placed into donut pans about halfway full. The remainder of the mold is filled with water, leaving space at the top to prevent spillover. Freezing the pans for one to two hours produces solid ice donuts containing corn pieces suspended in ice.
Once frozen, the corn ice rounds are removed from the pans and offered as treats to chickens. This method creates a refreshing and hydrating snack with the added interest of corn kernels. The donut shape offers easy handling and slow melting.
These frozen treats are ideal during hot weather to help chickens stay cool and engaged, providing both moisture and a light vegetable snack. The recipe is straightforward and practical, requiring only a can of corn, water, and a suitable mold.
Ingredients
- 1 can corn whole kernel
- water
Instructions
- Fill your donut pans about halfway with corn. One can should be perfect for a 6-donut pan.
- Fill the donut pans the rest of the way with water, stopping about 1/4" from the top of the pans, so they don't spill.
- Freeze 1-2 hours.
- When they're fully frozen, pop the ice donuts out of the pan and serve to chickens.
