Frozen Gin & Tonic

This Frozen Gin & Tonic cocktail blends frozen tonic water cubes with gin and freshly grated lime zest, resulting in a smooth, frosty drink with balanced bitterness and citrus aroma. Once blended, it’s served chilled with lime wedges for garnish. This preparation provides a refreshing twist on the classic gin and tonic, suitable for warm weather or casual gatherings.

Description

The Frozen Gin & Tonic begins by freezing tonic water into ice cubes overnight. When ready to serve, these tonic cubes are blended with gin and freshly grated lime zest until smooth and frosty. The lime zest adds a bright citrus fragrance that complements the tonic’s quinine bitterness and the gin’s botanicals. The drink is divided into four chilled glasses, garnished with lime wedges, and served immediately to retain its chilly texture.

Flavor and aroma can vary depending on the gin brand and its botanicals, with recommendations to try Bombay Sapphire, Hendricks, or Beefeater. Optional garnishes such as cucumber slices, rosemary sprigs, or a touch of simple syrup can be added to personalize the flavor but are not required.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 liter tonic water
  • 8 ounces gin
  • 1 lime zest freshly grated

Instructions

  1. The night before, pour the tonic water into ice cube molds. Freeze overnight until frozen.
  2. When ready to serve, add the frozen tonic water ice cubes, gin and lime zest to the blend. Blend until smooth and frosty.
  3. Divide the drink between four chilled glasses. Slice the lime into wedges and garnish the drink. Serve immediately!
  4. Note: this will taste slightly different based on your brand of gin and the botanicals in the gin. You can always add a wedge of cucumber or even some cucumber juice, a sprig of rosemary or a touch of simple syrup to enhance this drink. The above recipe is my favorite combo when using bombay sapphire, hendricks or beefeater gin.
