Garlic and Herb Parmesan Biscuits

These Garlic and Herb Parmesan Biscuits combine all-purpose flour with baking powder and baking soda for leavening, enriched by chunks of Parmesan and Gruyere cheeses and chopped chives. Cold garlic herb butter folded into the dough creates tender, flaky biscuits with savory, cheesy flavors. Brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with flaky salt and black pepper before baking, these biscuits develop a golden crust and soft interior. Served with prosciutto and scrambled eggs, they provide a hearty start to the day or a flavorful side.

Description

Garlic and Herb Parmesan Biscuits are made by mixing flour with leavening agents, salt, pepper, and baking soda, then cutting in cold garlic and herb butter spread until crumbly. Cheese cubes of Parmesan and Gruyere plus fresh chives get folded into the dough with buttermilk to form a lightly kneaded dough. The dough is shaped into a square, cut into squares, and baked at 450°F until golden and puffed. Brushed with melted herb butter and seasoned, they develop a crisp exterior while staying soft inside.

The combination of cheese and chives layered with garlic herb butter creates rich, savory biscuits with a delicate crumb. Their sturdy yet tender texture pairs well with soft scrambled eggs and prosciutto for breakfast or brunch. These biscuits also serve well as a side to soups or salads.

To vary the meal, consider serving with sausage gravy or your preferred breakfast meats. The biscuits keep their buttery and cheesy flavors crisp when fresh and are best enjoyed warm shortly after baking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper freshly cracked
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ cup butter Land O Lakes® Garlic & Herb Butter Spread brand, plus 2 tablespoons melted
  • cup Parmesan Cheese cubed 1/4 inch
  • cup gruyere cheese cubed 1/4 inch
  • ½ cup chives chopped
  • 1 cup buttermilk cold
  • salt flaky salt, freshly cracked, to top
  • black pepper flaky salt, freshly cracked, to top

To Serve

  • egg soft scrambled
  • prosciutto sliced
  • butter extra Land O Lakes® Garlic & Herb Butter Spread

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450˚F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper and baking soda and whisk to combine. Using a fork or a pastry cutter, cut the cold Land O Lakes® Garlic & Herb Butter Spread into the flour mixture until crumbly. Make a well in the center, place cheese and chives in the well and pour buttermilk over. Carefully and slowly stir until it comes together and makes dough
  3. Turn the dough out onto lightly floured surface and, with floured hands, give it a quick knead 3-4 times to bring it together. Pat the dough into an 8×8 square, about 1 inch thick, and cut into 9 square biscuits
  4. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment or a silpat, brush with melted butter spread, sprinkle with salt and pepper and place in a hot oven until puffed up and golden brown, around 15-18 minutes
  5. Slice each biscuit in half and serve with prosciutto, scrambled eggs and softened butter spread slathered on top

Notes

  • Cut cold garlic herb butter thoroughly into the flour mixture for flaky biscuits.
  • Use cold buttermilk to help the dough come together without overmixing.
  • Serve with scrambled eggs and prosciutto or accompany with sausage gravy for variation.
