Garlic Butter Oyster Mushrooms
Description
Oyster mushrooms are cleaned gently with a damp towel and trimmed to remove the tougher bottom stems. They are cut into individual mushrooms or halved if large, ensuring quick and even cooking. The cooking begins with olive oil heated over medium heat; the mushrooms are tossed with soy sauce and added to the pan. They cook undisturbed initially, allowing them to brown on one side, then stirred and cooked until tender.
Butter and minced garlic are added later, allowing the garlic to release its aroma without burning. The garlic butter coats the mushrooms, enriching their delicate flavor. Fresh parsley or other herbs can be sprinkled over the finished dish for brightness, and the mushrooms are seasoned with salt and black pepper to taste. The resulting dish has a balance of tender texture, mild earthiness, and a hint of savory depth from soy and garlic butter.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds oyster mushrooms
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 clove garlic minced
- parsley or other herbs for garnish, optional, chopped, fresh
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Wipe the oyster mushrooms with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt or debris if needed.
- Cut oyster mushrooms into individual mushrooms (and cut in half if they are large). Remove about ½ of the bottom stem.
- Preheat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Toss mushrooms with soy sauce and add to the skillet.
- Stir to gently coat with oil and then allow mushrooms to cook 3-4 minutes without stirring or until browned on one side. Stir and continue cooking until mushrooms are tender.
- Push the mushrooms to one side and add the butter and garlic to the pan. Cook for 30 seconds or until fragrant. Stir into the mushrooms and cook 1 minute more.
- Season with parsley, salt & pepper to taste.
Notes
- Clean oyster mushrooms gently with a damp paper towel to avoid excess water absorption.
- Remove tougher bottom stem portion before cooking for better texture.
- Fresh herbs can be added before serving for added flavor and color.
- Rinsing mushrooms is not recommended but, if needed, do so briefly and pat dry immediately.
