Garlic Cheese Bread
Description
The Garlic Cheese Bread recipe calls for slicing bread about three-quarters of an inch thick and halving the slices. Softened butter is combined with minced garlic to form a flavorful spread. This mixture is evenly applied to each bread slice and then topped with plenty of grated cheese such as mozzarella or cheddar. A sprinkle of dried herbs like oregano, along with black pepper and red chili flakes, adds an aromatic and mild spicy note. Baking or toasting the bread melts the cheese thoroughly and creates a slightly crisp texture on the edges while keeping the middle soft and buttery.
The result is a versatile bread side that complements various meals or serves as a satisfying snack. Additional toppings such as olives or sautéed vegetables can be added before cooking for extra flavor. The notes recommend using either dried herbs in the mix or sprinkling fresh herbs on top after baking. The cheese selection is flexible, and mixing different types can add depth to the flavor.
This bread benefits from careful preparation including using room temperature butter to ease spreading and preheating the oven to ensure even cooking. Toasting the bread covered on the stovetop is an alternative method to melt the cheese gently. With these steps, the dish achieves a balance of creamy garlic butter, melted cheese, and herbaceous seasoning that enhances simple bread into a tasty accompaniment or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 4 to 5 lices bread or half a loaf of bread. you can use whole wheat or brown or multi grain or white bread
- 2 tablespoon butter salted or unsalted
- 3 to 4 garlic medium sized. peeled, minced or grated or finely crushed, cloves
- 100 grams mozzarella cheese or ½ cup grated cheese - processed or cheddar or mozzarella cheese or a mix of two to three cheese
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper or add as required, ground
- ¼ teaspoon red chili flakes or add as required
- ½ teaspoon oregano or any dried herbs, add as required, dry
- salt - as required and only to be added if using unsalted butter
Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees C/392 degrees F before baking.
- Slice the loaf of bread in slices having 0.75 inches width. Now halve each slice.
- Take the softened butter (butter at room temperature) in a bowl. I used salted butter. If using unsalted butter, then add a bit of salt.
- Grate or mince 3 to 4 medium peeled garlic cloves directly into the softened butter. Instead of garlic, you can also add garlic chives.
- Mix the grated garlic very well with the butter.
- Grate cheddar or mozzarella cheese. You will need about ½ cup of grated cheese.
Making Garlic Cheese Bread
- Now spread the garlic butter evenly on all the slices.
- Top with the cheese generously.
- Sprinkle with your favorite herb or spice. You can add oregano, basil, red chili flakes, black pepper, Italian seasoning etc.
- Place the bread slices in a baking tray.
Baking Garlic Cheese Toast
- Now keep the baking tray on the top most rack of your oven. If using a microwave oven in the convection mode, then keep the baking tray on the glass turn table.
- Bake at 200 degrees C/392 degrees F for 5 to 6 minutes or till the edges become a light golden and a bit crisp.
- The cheese will also melt. You don't need to toast these slices.
- Serve these Garlic Cheese Bread hot with tomato ketchup as a starter or as as a snack.
Notes
- Use softened butter mixed well with freshly minced garlic for the best flavor.
- Choose your favorite bread type; the recipe works well with whole wheat, multigrain, or white bread.
- Add fresh herbs on top after baking for a bright herbal note, or use dried herbs before baking for a richer flavor.
- Adjust seasonings like black pepper and chili flakes according to taste, omitting them for children if needed.
- Feel free to include additional toppings such as olives, sautéed mushrooms, or spinach for variation.
- Cheese choices can be mixed; mozzarella, cheddar, and processed cheese are good options.
- To melt cheese without an oven, toast on low heat covered with a lid so it doesn’t touch the cheese.
- Scale ingredient quantities to make more servings as desired.
