Garlic Cream Sauce

Garlic Cream Sauce marries butter and garlic cooked gently, flour to thicken, and creamy half-and-half seasoned with parsley, salt, and pepper. The sauce thickens to a smooth consistency and can be served over pasta or as a dipping sauce. It balances gentle garlic flavor with creamy richness and a fresh herb note.

Description

Garlic Cream Sauce begins by melting butter with minced garlic over gentle heat until fragrant without browning. A tablespoon of all-purpose flour is whisked in and cooked briefly to eliminate raw taste and start thickening. Gradually, half-and-half is added while whisking to create a smooth base. The sauce simmers 2 to 3 minutes to thicken.

Freshly chopped parsley is stirred in for a bright, herbal accent, and the sauce is seasoned with salt and black pepper. The result is a velvety, lightly garlicky cream sauce that clings well to pasta or works as a dipping option for chicken, shrimp, or steak.

Optional parmesan cheese can be whisked in after thickening to add extra savory depth. The sauce can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to four days and reheated gently on the stove or in a microwave.

Ingredients

Servings
  • cup butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • cup half and half or light cream
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped, fresh
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine butter and garlic in a small skillet and cook over medium low heat until the butter is melted and you can begin to smell the garlic.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute more. Stir in cream, a bit at a time, whisking after each addition. Simmer 2-3 minutes or until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in parsley. Season generously with salt & pepper to taste.
  4. Serve with pasta or as a dipping sauce for chicken, shrimp or steak.

Notes

  • Cook garlic just until fragrant to avoid bitterness; do not let it brown.
  • Adding 1/3 cup freshly shredded parmesan cheese after thickening adds depth.
  • This sauce pairs well with pasta or as a dip for seafood, chicken, or vegetables.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat gently, stirring occasionally.
