Garlic Green Beans

Garlic Green Beans are cooked with butter or olive oil and sliced garlic, sautéed to golden, then combined with green beans seasoned with salt and pepper. The beans are briefly cooked until crisp-tender, simmered with water or broth to finish cooking and evaporate liquid, then finished by adding back the browned garlic for a light, savory side.

Description

This recipe starts by sautéing sliced garlic in butter or olive oil over medium-high heat just until golden to infuse the fat with garlic flavor. The garlic is removed to prevent burning. Green beans are added next, seasoned with kosher salt and fresh black pepper, cooking for several minutes until they turn crisp-tender. Adding water or vegetable broth then allows the beans to simmer and cook through with moist heat while the liquid reduces.

Once the beans are tender and the broth is nearly evaporated, the reserved golden garlic slices are stirred back in, lending a toasted garlic flavor throughout. This method maintains the bright green color and texture of the beans while bringing mellow garlic notes. The dish is simple, focusing on fresh green beans and quality garlic with minimal seasoning.

Garlic Green Beans are suitable as a side dish for a wide range of meals, highlighting fresh vegetables with a savory accent. The choice between butter or olive oil gives some flexibility in flavor and nutrition. The quick cooking preserves the beans’ natural snap and color.
