Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Garlic Mashed Potatoes are made by boiling quartered red potatoes with crushed garlic cloves, then mashing them with butter, whole milk, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. The result is a creamy, flavorful side dish with a mild garlic aroma and smooth texture that complements many meals.

Description

This recipe uses red potatoes, which are cooked with unpeeled skin and infused with garlic by boiling the potatoes and crushed garlic together until fork-tender. Once drained, butter and whole milk are mixed in and the potatoes are mashed until creamy but with some body. Seasoning with kosher salt and coarse black pepper adds balanced seasoning without overwhelming the mild flavors.

The crushed garlic softens during cooking, providing gentle pungency without sharp bite, blending subtly into the potatoes for a comforting taste. The mash is rich from butter and milk but avoids being heavy or greasy.

These garlic mashed potatoes work well as a staple side dish, pairing with roasts, poultry, or any hearty main courses that benefit from a smooth, flavorful accompaniment.
