Garlic Parmesan Wings

Garlic Parmesan Wings are baked chicken wings coated with a crispy, seasoned flour and baking powder mix, then tossed in a butter-based sauce with Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, parsley, and a touch of hot sauce. The wings are baked in stages to develop a golden, crispy skin and finish with a flavorful cheese coating. The balance of savory, garlicky, and mild heat flavors enhances the crispy texture, making them a savory appetizer or main dish.

Description

This recipe starts by drying and coating chicken wings with flour, baking powder, seasoned salt, and black pepper, then baking them until crispy and browned at a moderate oven temperature. A garlic-parmesan butter sauce combines melted butter with grated Parmesan, garlic powder, fresh parsley, black pepper, and a few dashes of hot sauce for mild heat. Half the sauce is used to coat the wings before a final high-temperature bake crisps the cheese and wings further. Remaining sauce coats the wings after baking, with optional extra cheese and parsley garnish.

These wings deliver a crisp exterior with a savory, subtly garlicky flavor from the Parmesan and seasonings, balanced by a dash of hot sauce for slight warmth. Baking rather than frying produces a slightly lighter texture with a crunchy cheese crust.

Best served hot, they can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or part of a meal. Variations include cooking in an air fryer with adjusted seasoning steps for similar results.

Fresh garlic can be substituted for garlic powder if a stronger garlic flavor is preferred. Wings can also be tossed in sauce once cooked and served immediately without further baking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 pounds chicken wings split and tips removed, 36 split wings total
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Sauce

  • cup butter slightly cooled, melted
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 1 tablespoon parsley chopped, fresh
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 4-6 dashes hot sauce Tobasco

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Pat the wings dry with a paper towel.
  3. Toss the wings with flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Line a pan with foil and place parchment paper on it. Arrange wings in a single layer on the pan.
  5. Bake the wings for 20 minutes, flip, and then bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until crispy and browned.
  6. In a medium bowl, combine butter, parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and hot sauce. Toss half of the sauce with the cooked wings.
  7. Increase the oven temperature to 475°F and bake the wings for 8-10 more minutes, or until golden and crisp. (Broil if desired.)
  8. Remove the wings from the oven and toss with the remaining sauce.
  9. Garnish with extra parmesan and parsley.

Notes

  • Garlic powder provides a subtler garlic flavor, but fresh garlic can be used for a more pronounced taste.
  • After initial baking, tossing wings with half the sauce and baking again crisps the Parmesan coating well.
  • For air fryer preparation, skip flour and baking powder, and air fry wings before tossing in sauce and finishing.
