Garlic Parmesan Wings (Air Fryer Method)

Garlic Parmesan Wings prepared in an air fryer achieve crisp skin coated with a savory blend of garlic, Parmesan cheese, and mild spices. The wings are seasoned with a mixture including baking powder to enhance crispiness, then tossed in a rich garlic butter Parmesan sauce. This method offers a way to enjoy tender, flavorful wings with a balanced garlicky, cheesy finish. Ideal for a snack or casual meal, the air fryer keeps the wings juicy inside while delivering a crisp exterior.

Description

Garlic Parmesan Wings (Air Fryer Method) combine seasoned chicken wing segments coated with a mix of kosher salt, spices, Parmesan cheese, and optionally baking powder, which helps crisp the skin during air frying at 390°F. The wings cook for 20 minutes, flipped halfway for even crisping. A buttery sauce made by melting salted butter and mixing in garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, black pepper, fresh parsley, and freshly grated Parmesan coats the wings after cooking. The result is wings with a crunchy surface and flavorful, cheesy garlic coating.

The butter-based sauce adds richness and depth to the seasoned wings, while the air fryer produces a texture that is crisp without deep frying. These wings serve well as an appetizer or party snack and pair nicely with dips or salads.

For best results, drying wings overnight enhances skin dryness before cooking, delivering extra crispiness. Baking powder triggers a chemical reaction in the skin proteins, aiding crisp texture. Leftover wings keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be refreshed by reheating in the air fryer at 300°F for a couple of minutes to restore crispness.

Ingredients

Servings

Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings

  • 2 1/2 pounds chicken wings drumettes and flats, segments
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper finely ground
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder optional, aluminum-free
  • 1 tbsp Parmesan Cheese freshly grated

Parmesan Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 8 tbsp butter salted, 1 stick
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper finely ground
  • 2 tbsp parsley finely chopped, fresh
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese freshly grated

Instructions

  1. Remove the chicken wing parts from the refrigerator and pat dry, placing onto a wire rack. Let rest for 30 minutes or continue with recipe, using baking powder.
  2. Preheat your airfryer at 390 degrees F.
  3. Whisk together the kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, parmesan cheese, and baking powder if using, in a medium mixing bowl.
  4. Add the chicken wing segments to the seasoning mix and toss to coat each wing generously.
  5. Place the seasoned wings on a flat layer in the preheated airfryer basket.
  6. Cook the garlic parm wings for 20 minutes, flipping the wings carefully with tongs at the 10 minute mark.

Make the Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the stick (8 tbsp) of salted butter, and mix in garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and parsley.
  2. Stir together for a minute until butter is fully melted, then add the grated parmesan cheese.
  3. Once the chicken wings are finished cooking, toss them in a clean large sized mixing bowl with the wing sauce.
  4. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Drying the wings overnight helps achieve crispier skin before air frying.
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon aluminum-free baking powder to the seasoning mix if short on drying time; it chemically improves skin crispness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat wings in the air fryer at 300°F for 2 minutes to refresh crispness.
