German Chocolate Frosting

German Chocolate Frosting blends caramelized sugars, evaporated milk, butter, and egg yolks heated together to create a rich, golden base. Shredded sweetened coconut and chopped pecans are folded in along with vanilla extract, producing a textured, nutty, and sweet topping ideal for cakes.

Description

The German Chocolate Frosting is prepared by cooking a mixture of granulated sugar, brown sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and egg yolks over medium heat. Constant stirring thickens the mixture into a luscious golden sauce. Once removed from heat, shredded sweetened coconut and chopped pecans are stirred in, adding chewy texture and nutty flavor. Vanilla extract highlights the ingredients and rounds out the richness.

This frosting thickens further as it cools, becoming spreadable and ideal for topping cakes, especially traditional German chocolate cake. It is a creamy, sweet, and slightly textured frosting that complements chocolate flavor well. Cooling it sufficiently before spreading ensures it holds shape on cakes or cupcakes.
