Gluten Free Homemade Moon Sand

Gluten Free Homemade Moon Sand is a moldable, clay-like dough made from cornstarch, baking powder or soda, and neutral oil. It can be tinted with food coloring and shaped to create a sensory, pliable play material that does not stick to hands, offering a customizable texture through oil adjustments.

Description

This recipe produces a gluten-free, soft, and silky dough by blending cornstarch and baking powder or baking soda, then incorporating neutral cooking oil gradually. The mixture first feels powdery but firms up into a dry, moldable clay that can be adjusted between squishier or less sticky by varying the oil quantity. Food coloring adds visual appeal for creative play uses.

Unlike typical recipes meant for eating, this preparation is designed for tactile play, likely inspired by textures similar to moon sand or kinetic sand. The final product does not contain gluten ingredients and is simple to make with common kitchen staples.

The dough is pliable enough to be shaped without sticking to hands overly much, making it suitable for children and adults who want a sensory, craft-like material.
