Gluten-Free Sausage Balls

Gluten-Free Sausage Balls combine almond meal, cheddar cheese, and pork sausage to create bite-sized savory snacks. The mixture is seasoned with herbs and spices, formed into 1-inch balls, and baked until golden brown. These sausage balls offer a tender inside with a crisp exterior, making them suitable for appetizers or snacks without gluten-containing ingredients.

Description

This Gluten-Free Sausage Balls recipe starts by mixing almond meal, salt, black pepper, baking powder, garlic powder, dried rosemary, beaten egg, cheddar cheese, and ground pork sausage thoroughly until combined. The mixture is then shaped into roughly 36 small 1-inch balls, ensuring even size for uniform baking.

Baked at 350°F on a parchment-lined sheet, the sausage balls cook for about 25 minutes, turning once halfway through to brown evenly. The finished balls have a golden crust while maintaining a moist, tender interior rich with the flavors of cheddar and sausage, complemented by aromatic spices.

They can be served warm after a short cooling or at room temperature. The recipe offers an alternative to frying by baking, providing a more hands-off and less oily option. These sausage balls are suitable for gluten-sensitive eaters and make easy party or snack bites.

Using a hand mixer can speed mixing, but hand mixing works well too. Both baking and frying methods are options depending on preference.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups almond meal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon rosemary dried
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 12 oz cheddar cheese
  • 1 lb pork sausage pastured

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Using your hand mix all ingredients until mixture comes together.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Roll the mixture into 36 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown, turning them halfway through. Cool for 5 minutes and serve.

Notes

  • Mixing the sausage balls by hand or with a hand mixer both yield well combined ingredients.
  • Oven baking is preferred for a hands-off approach, but pan frying in oil is an alternative cooking method.
  • Roll the balls evenly to ensure consistent baking and texture throughout.
