Goat Cheese Crostini with Rhubarb Chutney

These crostini feature toasted ciabatta or baguette slices topped with soft goat cheese and a spoonful of rhubarb chutney mixed with strawberries and ginger. The contrast of creamy cheese with the tangy and slightly sweet chutney, complemented by fresh strawberry and rosemary garnish, creates a balanced appetizer with both texture and fresh flavor notes.

Description

The recipe begins by lightly toasting slices of bread in olive oil to create a golden, crisp base. This provides a sturdy yet tender surface for the toppings. Soft goat cheese is then spread thinly atop each slice, delivering smooth creaminess and mild tang. On top of the cheese goes the rhubarb chutney, which includes strawberries and ginger, adding a fruity, slightly sharp, and warmly spiced element.

The final garnish of quartered strawberries and a sprig of rosemary adds freshness and an herbal note, enhancing the overall flavor profile. This combination yields a bite with a mix of crunchy bread, creamy cheese, fruity acidity, and aromatic herbs.

Using either ciabatta or baguette works well, allowing for flexibility in bread choice. The crostini are suitable as an elegant appetizer or snack, especially when served at gatherings or paired with light salads or charcuterie.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 lices ciabatta bread or baguette
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper freshly ground
  • 100 grams soft goat cheese 1/2 cup
  • 3 tablespoons rhubarb chutney with strawberries and ginger
  • 4 strawberries quartered
  • 8 prings rosemary to garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a frying pan with a lug of olive oil over medium heat. Toast the ciabatta slices for no more than 2 minutes on each side, until golden, trying not to overcrowd the pan. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  2. Spread a thin layer of soft goat cheese over the crostini. Spread the rhubarb chutney on top, about 1 teaspoon per crostini.
  3. Garnish with 2 strawberry quarters and a sprig rosemary per crostini. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Both ciabatta bread and baguette can be used interchangeably depending on preference or availability.
