Grand Marnier Orange Cranberry Sauce

Grand Marnier Orange Cranberry Sauce combines fresh orange puree and zest with sugar and tart cranberries, simmered until the cranberries burst into a jam-like consistency. The sauce is finished with Grand Marnier liqueur, lending a subtle citrus warmth. This sauce balances sweet and tart flavors with a smooth, slightly chunky texture and is suitable for serving hot or cold alongside roast meats or as a condiment.

Description

This Grand Marnier Orange Cranberry Sauce brings together fresh orange zest and peeled segments blended into a puree, combined with sugar and fresh cranberries. The mix is cooked down by simmering to allow the cranberries to soften and pop, creating a sauce that thickens as it cooks. Adding Grand Marnier liqueur at the end introduces a nuanced orange-flavored complexity that complements the fruitiness without overpowering it.

The result is a vibrant sauce with tangy sweetness from the cranberries and bright citrus highlights from the orange components. Its texture strikes a balance between smoothness from the pureed orange and bursts of whole cranberry pieces, making it versatile for different serving preferences.

Serve this sauce cold or warm as an accompaniment to poultry, pork, or holiday dishes. The use of Grand Marnier adds an alcoholic depth that can be substituted with other orange liqueurs if preferred.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 whole orange seedless- zested then peeled and separated into about six parts
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 12 oz cranberries (fresh-preferably organic)
  • 2 Tbsp Grand Marnier (or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Put the orange slices in a small food processor or blender and make into puree.
  2. Place the pureed orange in a small pot with the orange zest and sugar. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the cranberries and cook, continuing to stir occasionally, over medium heat, for about 10 minutes.
  3. The cranberries will break and pop, and eventually look like cranberry sauce. Stir in the Grand Marnier liqueur and remove from heat.
  4. Serve hot or cold.

Notes

  • If unavailable, Cointreau or another orange-flavored liqueur can substitute Grand Marnier.
