Grandmother's Chicken Casserole
Description
Grandmother's Chicken Casserole layers cooked chicken breasts in a baking dish and spreads a mixture of cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, and sour cream evenly over the meat. The creamy mixture keeps the dish moist and flavorful. Crumbled Ritz crackers are sprinkled over the top to add texture and flavor, and butter pieces dot the cereal topping to help it brown and crisp during baking.
Baked at 350ºF for about 25 minutes, the casserole finishes with a golden brown crust and a soft, creamy interior. It functions well as a comforting, hearty dish with familiar pantry ingredients.
The notes suggest assembling the casserole ahead of time without baking, to refrigerate and bake later, allowing convenient preparation. Leftovers store well refrigerated for 3 to 4 days and the casserole freezes for up to 3 months when wrapped properly. Reheating should be done after thawing in the fridge overnight.
