Greek Chicken Marinade Recipe

This Greek Chicken Marinade recipe blends yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, and fresh herbs like oregano, basil, and dill to infuse boneless, skinless chicken breasts with moisture and flavor. Marinating for 2 to 8 hours tenderizes the chicken and creates a balanced herbaceous taste. Grilling at 400ºF produces juicy, grilled chicken with a subtle tanginess that comes from the lemon and yogurt base, complemented by the garlic and herbs.

Description

The Greek Chicken Marinade Recipe involves coating chicken breasts in a mixture of plain Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and fresh herbs including oregano, basil, and dill, seasoned with salt and pepper. The yogurt's acidity and herbs penetrate the meat during marination, helping tenderize and flavor the chicken thoroughly. After marinating for a minimum of 2 hours, the chicken is grilled at 400ºF until cooked through, typically about 10 minutes total depending on thickness. This method yields tender chicken with a citrus and herbaceous flavor profile enhanced by grilling.

The marinade’s combination of yogurt and lemon juice keeps the chicken juicy while the fresh herbs provide aromatic notes. Garlic adds a mild pungency and robustness to the flavor. The chicken is rested briefly after grilling to allow juices to redistribute before serving. This preparation is well-suited for summer grilling and pairs nicely with side salads or grilled vegetables.

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consumed within three days to maintain freshness. Because the marinade quantities are balanced for two chicken breasts, they provide sufficient coating without excess. Monitoring internal temperature to 165ºF ensures safe and optimal doneness without overcooking.
