Green Beans with Bacon

Green Beans with Bacon combines crisp-tender green beans blanched and chilled, then sautéed with thick-cut peppered bacon and onions cooked in bacon grease. A touch of sugar and fresh thyme enhance the flavor, balanced with apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. This savory side dish offers a smoky, tangy taste and is served warm alongside main courses.

Description

This recipe begins by boiling green beans until just tender, then cooling them quickly under cold water to preserve color and texture. Bacon slices are cooked in a skillet until crispy, their fat retained in the pan to cook chopped onions for a flavorful base. Granulated sugar and fresh thyme are added and cooked briefly to develop sweetness and aroma.

Apple cider vinegar introduces a mild acidity that cuts through the richness of bacon and butter, while salt and black pepper season the dish. Finally, the cooked green beans and crumbled bacon are returned to the skillet, tossed to combine flavors. The result is a warm side with crisp beans, savory bacon, and a balance of sweet and tangy notes.

This dish complements roasted or grilled meats and is suitable for seasonal meals where smoky, hearty vegetables are welcome.
