Green Beans with Bacon
Description
Green Beans with Bacon features fresh green beans trimmed and cooked alongside diced bacon and onions. The bacon is first crisped to release its fat, which remains in the pan to sauté onions and cook the green beans gently. The addition of water helps steam and tenderize the beans without losing their slight bite. Seasoned with salt, pepper, and fresh parsley, the dish balances the smoky savoriness of bacon with the fresh brightness of the herbs. The bacon crispness adds texture and richness that complements the green beans.
The preparation involves cooking the bacon until crispy, removing excess fat, then sautéing onions before adding green beans and water. Stirring occasionally ensures even cooking without mushiness. Once tender, the bacon is sprinkled back in for added flavor and texture before serving.
This dish can be served as a side for dinners featuring meats or poultry. Variations include using smaller French haricot verts or wax beans for a more delicate presentation. Slicing beans into pieces is optional based on preference.
Using kitchen shears for dicing bacon helps save prep time. The recipe allows some fat retention for flavor transfer without being greasy. Parsley added at the end brings a fresh herbal note.
