Grilled Broccoli Recipe
Description
This recipe starts by whisking together balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, minced fresh garlic, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper to create a marinade. Raw broccoli florets are tossed in this mixture and left to sit for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to penetrate the vegetable's nooks.
The broccoli is then grilled in a well-oiled grill basket over medium-high heat, with occasional tossing to achieve even caramelization. The grilling process crisps the florets’ edges and intensifies the balsamic flavor, producing a slightly sweet, tangy, and smoky vegetable side dish.
Serving with fresh lemon wedges adds brightness and counterbalances the rich marinade. The recipe notes suggest also grilling lemon halves to add charred lemon flavor, enhancing the dish’s complexity.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cloves garlic minced, fresh
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt coarse
- 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1-2 heads broccoli cut into florets, raw
- 1 fresh lemon , cut into wedges
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt and pepper.
- Toss the cut broccoli florets in the marinade mixture. Allow to sit for 15 minutes, tossing every so often to get the flavor into every nook and cranny.
- Heat the grill to medium-high heat. Oil a grill basket and set over direct heat. Add the broccoli, tapping off excess marinade and discarding any leftover.
- Toss the broccoli every few minutes until the edges are crispy and balsamic vinegar has caramelized, approximately 10-12 minutes.
- Remove the heat and spritz with fresh lemon wedges.

Notes
- Grill halved lemons cut side down to add a sweeter, charred lemon flavor when served with the broccoli.
- Use a grill basket to prevent broccoli from falling through the grates and for easier tossing during grilling.
- Allow the broccoli to marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the marinade fully before grilling.
- Spritz fresh lemon juice over the broccoli just before serving to add brightness.
