Grilled Cod
Description
This recipe for Grilled Cod starts by patting cod fillets dry to ensure a good sear, seasoning them with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to add subtle smoky and savory notes. The fillets are rubbed with olive oil and rested at room temperature while preheating the grill.
The grill or grill pan is heated to medium-high and the grates greased to prevent sticking. The cod is carefully placed on the grill and cooked for approximately 4 minutes before flipping once it releases easily. After flipping, the fish cooks for another 2 to 4 minutes until it flakes easily and reaches an internal temperature of 130°F. Allowing the fish to rest for 5 minutes after grilling lets the juices redistribute.
The cod is served with chopped parsley and lemon wedges, which add freshness and acidity to complement the mild fish. This dish is straightforward and highlights the delicate texture of cod with light seasoning and a quick grilling method.
Ingredients
- 4 4- ounce cod fillets
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- parsley for serving, chopped
- lemon for serving, wedges
Instructions
- Pat the cod dry with a paper towel. Sprinkle it with salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder, then rub it with the olive oil. Leave at room temperature while preheating the grill.
- Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Coat grill grates with olive oil.
- Place cod onto the preheated grill. Grill for 4 minutes, then use a spatula to carefully lift the cod off the grill. If it feels sticky, allow it 1-2 more minutes until it releases easily. Flip the cod and cook until the cod starts to flake and reaches internal temperature of 130°F, about 2-4 more minutes. Use a spatula to carefully remove the cod off the grill.
- Allow to rest for 5 minutes, then serve with fresh parsley and lemon wedges, if desired.
Notes
- Greasing the grill grates thoroughly is essential to prevent the cod from sticking.
