Grilled Corn on the Cob

Grilled Corn on the Cob is prepared by grilling shucked ears of corn brushed with olive oil until lightly charred. A seasoned butter mixture of garlic, parsley, and thyme is melted and brushed over the hot grilled corn, enhancing its natural sweetness and adding herbal notes. This method cooks the corn kernels until tender with slightly smoky grill marks, making it a flavorful side for outdoor meals or barbecues.

Description

Grilled Corn on the Cob combines fresh corn ears that are lightly coated with olive oil and cooked over medium heat on a grill or grill pan. The grilling process imparts a gentle char and smoky flavor to the corn while keeping the kernels juicy and slightly crisp. After grilling, a butter sauce made with melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and thyme is applied, adding richness and fresh herbaceous tones to each bite. The corn is seasoned with salt and black pepper to balance the flavors.

This corn dish serves well alongside grilled meats or as a summer picnic side. The grilling time of 8 to 10 minutes ensures the kernels cook through but maintain a pleasant texture rather than becoming mushy.

For indoor preparation, a stovetop grill pan can be used in lieu of an outdoor grill. Rotating the corn regularly during cooking helps develop even grill marks and a slight char on all sides, enhancing both appearance and flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 ears corn shucked
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons parsley chopped, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon thyme chopped, fresh
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill or grill pan to medium heat.
  2. Brush the olive oil all over the corn.
  3. Place the corn on the grill. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until kernels are starting to brown, turning occasionally. The total cook time is about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Place the butter, garlic, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper in a bowl.
  5. Microwave in 30 second increments until butter is melted. Stir to combine.
  6. Brush the butter mixture over the grilled corn. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you don't have an outdoor grill, a stovetop grill pan works well for cooking the corn.
  • Turn the corn periodically during grilling to create even grill marks and prevent burning.
  • Grill the corn until you see slight browning and charred spots forming on the kernels.
