Grilled Halloumi
Description
The halloumi is sliced into half-inch thick planks and coated with extra-virgin olive oil. Grilling over high heat develops a charred surface and grill marks, imparting a smoky note. Reducing the heat to medium ensures the cheese cooks through without burning. Each side grills for 2 to 3 minutes until well-colored and warmed.
The result is halloumi with a firm exterior and a tender, slightly squeaky texture inside. It’s rich and salty with a mild flavor. Grilled halloumi can be served on its own, paired with vegetables, or included in Mediterranean-style dishes where its grilled texture and salty taste stand out.
Ingredients
- 6 to 8 ounces halloumi cheese
- extra-virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat a grill or grill pan to high heat. Slice the halloumi into ½-inch-thick planks. Rub both sides with olive oil and place on the hot grill. Reduce the heat to medium and grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until well-charred.
