Grilled Ham and Cheese

This Grilled Ham and Cheese sandwich features layers of cheddar cheese and ham toasted in buttered bread until golden and melty. An optional honey mustard sauce adds sweet and tangy notes that complement the savory filling. The sandwich is cooked on a skillet to develop a crisp, browned crust while melting the cheese evenly, creating a comforting and hearty snack or meal.

Description

The Grilled Ham and Cheese recipe stacks multiple slices of cheddar cheese and ham between bread slices optionally spread with a honey mustard sauce combining honey, yellow and Dijon mustards, mayonnaise, and optional hot sauce. The sandwich is buttered on the outside, then cooked over medium-low heat in a skillet to achieve a golden brown crust and melted filling.

The cheese melts smoothly and the ham warms through, while the honey mustard sauce adds a balance of sweetness, tang, and slight heat. The buttered bread crisps nicely, providing texture contrast to the soft interior. Cooking over medium-low heat ensures the cheese melts without burning the bread.

This sandwich works well for a quick lunch or casual dinner, accompanied by dipping the honey mustard sauce, which can be prepared in advance and refrigerated. It is best served warm to enjoy the melted cheese and toasted bread combination.
