Grilled Lobster Tail
Description
This recipe for Grilled Lobster Tail involves preparing 7-8 ounce lobster tails by cutting through the top shell and flesh and flattening them for grilling. The tails are brushed with olive oil and simply seasoned with salt and pepper to let the lobster's natural flavor shine. Grilling starts with the flesh side down over medium-high heat for about five minutes, then the tails are flipped to the shell side and basted with a mixture of melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley before cooking an additional four to five minutes until the lobster meat is opaque.
The garlic butter adds a rich, aromatic element that melds well with the natural sweetness of lobster. The grilling process imparts subtle smoky notes while maintaining a tender and juicy interior. Garnishing with extra parsley and serving with lemon wedges balances the richness and offers a refreshing acidity.
Grilled Lobster Tail serves well as a striking main course for seafood dinners or an indulgent appetizer. Using fresh lobster and careful attention to doneness prevents overcooking, ensuring the meat remains moist rather than rubbery. It is recommended to serve immediately after grilling for best texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 6 lobster tails 7-8 ounces each
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon parsley plus more for garnish, minced
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- lemon wedges
Instructions
- Heat an outdoor grill or indoor grill pan to medium high heat.
- Use kitchen shears to cut down the top of each lobster tail. Use a sharp knife to slice down the cut area, all the way through the flesh of the lobster, but not through the bottom shell.
- Use your hands to flatten each tail. Place a wooden or metal skewer through the lobster meat in each tail.
- Brush each lobster tail with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the butter, garlic, parsley, and salt in a small bowl. Microwave in 20 second increments until butter is melted. Stir to combine.
- Place the lobster tails flesh side down on the grill. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Flip the tails over and drizzle the garlic butter over the top of each one. Grill for another 4-5 minutes or until lobster meat is opaque.
- Sprinkle with additional parsley for garnish and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
Notes
- Doneness is indicated when the lobster shell is bright red and the meat is opaque; avoid overcooking to keep lobster tender.
- Best served immediately after grilling, as reheating can cause toughness.
- You can cook on charcoal, gas grills, or indoor grill pans depending on availability.
