Grilled Steak
Description
Grilled Steak highlights a 1½ pound sirloin or other steak cut, seasoned with salt and a steak seasoning blend. The steak is brought to room temperature before grilling, which helps it cook evenly. Cooking over high direct heat creates a seared crust in 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium rare, followed by resting to retain juices. An alternate method uses the Instant Pot air fryer lid for about 12 minutes, flipping halfway, offering convenience without losing the grilled flavor.
The flavor profile depends on the seasoning, with the option to serve with chimichurri adding a fresh, herbaceous note. Slicing against the grain enhances tenderness. This preparation suits a straightforward, classic steak dinner and pairs well with grilled vegetables or simple sides.
Notes emphasize checking internal temperature for doneness and keeping meat dry before cooking for optimum crust. Season steak just before grilling to prevent moisture draw-out, and adjust cooking times by cut and preferred doneness. Storage and leftovers are not specifically addressed.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds sirloin steak or other cut of your choice, 680g
- 1 tablespoon steak seasoning
- salt to taste
- chimichurri optional, for serving
Instructions
On the Grill Or Grill Pan
- Remove steak from the fridge half an hour before grilling and allow to come up to room temperature.
- Preheat grill or grill pan to high.
- Season both sides of the steak with salt and steak seasoning.
- Grill steak over direct heat for 4 to 5 minutes per side if you want it medium-rare.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes, so the juices redistribute.
- Slice and serve with chimichurri if you desire.
Grill It In The Instant Pot Using The Air Fryer Lid
- Put seasoned steak in the air fryer basket inside the Instant Pot.
- Plug in your air fryer lid on your instant pot, press air fry button and set to 400F / 204C for 12 minutes.
- Halfway through cook time, open the lid and flip the steak.
- When done, open the lid, check temperature, remove the steak (if done) and let rest.
- If not done enough, then cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Notes
- Bring steak to room temperature before cooking for even doneness.
- Pat steak dry to develop the best crust during grilling.
- Season with salt and spices just before grilling to avoid moisture loss.
- Use a fast-read thermometer to check for medium rare doneness (130-135°F/54-57°C).
- Slice steak against the grain to enhance tenderness.
- Cooking times vary by cut; monitor closely to avoid overcooking.
