Grilled Turkey Burgers
Description
Grilled Turkey Burgers are prepared by mixing ground turkey with seasoning ingredients including garlic, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, combined with an egg to bind. The patties are shaped uniformly and pressed gently in the center to encourage even grilling. Cooking over medium heat on a grill or grill pan ensures a nicely charred exterior while retaining moisture inside.
The chosen turkey lean percentage (80-85%) balances fat content to avoid dryness while keeping the patties firm enough to hold together on the grill. The seasoning mix adds depth without overpowering the mild turkey flavor. These burgers are versatile and can be served on buns with various toppings, making them a hearty option for barbecue or casual meals.
Using an egg as a binder helps the patties hold shape during cooking. The recipe's guidance on lean percentage helps avoid overly dry burgers, improving taste and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey 80-85% lean, lean
- 1 egg large
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together egg, garlic, italian seasoning, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt and pepper. Add the ground turkey, and use your hands to mix until combined.
- Divide the mixture into 4 even portions and use your hands to shape them into round patties, about ¾ inch in thickness. Use your thumb to press down in the center of each patty to create an indent.
- Preheat the grill or grill pan to medium heat and oil the grates or pan. Cook the burgers for about 5 minutes per side until they reach the desired doneness. Serve on a bun with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Use ground turkey with 80-85% lean content to keep burgers juicy and flavorful.
- Pressing an indent in the center of patties helps them cook evenly without puffing up.
- Grill over medium heat and oil the grates to prevent sticking and achieve good browning.
