Ground Beef Tacos

Ground Beef Tacos feature spiced ground beef cooked with aromatic onions, garlic, and a blend of chili powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, and cayenne pepper. The beef mixture simmers with tomato sauce, broth, cider vinegar, and brown sugar to develop a flavorful, slightly thickened filling. This seasoned filling can be served in taco shells or tortillas and customized with typical taco toppings.

Description

This recipe begins by sautéing minced onion and garlic in vegetable oil, infusing the base with savory flavor. Ground beef is browned with a spice blend including chili powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, and cayenne, offering a warm, mildly spicy profile. Tomato sauce and chicken broth add moisture while cider vinegar and brown sugar balance tartness and sweetness. Simmering reduces the liquid to a thick consistency that clings to the beef. The final seasoned meat filling allows for classic taco assembly using hard or soft shells and toppings such as cheese, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream.

Ground Beef Tacos are a versatile meal suitable for casual dinners or gatherings, easily customized with preferred toppings. Leftover seasoned beef keeps well refrigerated for several days and can be reheated for additional meals.

Storing the taco meat in an airtight container in the refrigerator helps maintain freshness for up to 4 days. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion minced, small
  • 3 garlic minced, cloves
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon oregano dried
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup chicken broth or stock
  • 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic, chili powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, cayenne and salt; cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the beef and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato sauce, chicken broth, vinegar and brown sugar, and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently, until the liquid has reduced and thickened (the mixture should not be completely dry), about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Assemble hard or soft tacos as you'd like, with toppings such as shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, cilantro, etc. Leftover taco meat can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Notes

  • Leftover taco meat can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Adjust spices to your preferred heat level by modifying cayenne and chili powder amounts.
  • Serve with traditional taco toppings to enhance flavor and texture contrast.
