Ground Beef Tostadas
Description
This recipe makes tostadas by first browning lean ground beef, then simmering it with water and taco seasoning until thickened, creating a seasoned meat topping. Refried beans are heated separately to add a creamy layer spread onto warmed tostada shells, which can be store-bought or homemade corn tortillas crisped by baking or frying.
The layered assembly includes refried beans followed by the beef mixture, topped with fresh garnishes such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, olives, jalapenos, cilantro, diced onions, and sour cream. These toppings add texture, freshness, and varied flavors complementing the seasoned beef.
Tostadas can be served immediately to maintain crispness. The recipe also suggests methods for preparing corn tortillas if tostada shells are unavailable, including oil brushing and oven baking or shallow frying for a homemade crisp base.
