Guacamole Recipe
Description
Guacamole Recipe starts by mixing finely diced red onion, lime juice, minced garlic, and sea salt in a bowl to marinate and soften the onion’s bite. Ripe avocados are halved, pitted, and scooped into the bowl, then mashed gently with a fork or potato masher for desired smoothness. Diced Roma tomatoes, chopped fresh cilantro, and seeded diced jalapeño are stirred in to add freshness, color, and mild heat. Lime juice and salt adjustments can be made to balance tartness and seasoning before serving.
The finished guacamole has a creamy yet chunky texture with fresh herbaceous notes from cilantro and a mild kick from jalapeño. Marinating the onions with lime juice mellows their sharpness and integrates the garlic flavor well. The recipe offers flexibility for personal texture preference by using either a fork (chunky) or potato masher (smooth). The combination of tomato and jalapeño adds brightness and slight spice without overwhelming the creamy avocado base.
Guacamole works well as a dip for chips, a topping for tacos, or accompaniment to Mexican dishes and salads. It’s best served fresh to preserve the vibrant color and flavors. Leftovers can be covered tightly and refrigerated but may darken due to oxidation.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup red onion diced
- lime juice juice of 2 limes
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- ¾ teaspoon salt sea salt
- 3 large avocado ripe
- 2 Roma tomato diced
- ½ cup cilantro chopped, fresh
- 1 jalapeno pepper seeded and diced
Instructions

- Halve, pit, and scoop the avocado flesh out of the skins and place it in the bowl with the onions. Mash gently with a fork until the avocado is as smooth or chunky as you prefer.
- Add the tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeño, and stir together until well combined. Taste and add more lime juice or salt, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Marinate the diced red onion, garlic, lime juice, and salt for about 10 minutes before adding avocado to soften sharpness and enhance flavor.
- Adjust avocado mashing method with a fork for chunkier texture or a potato masher for smoother guacamole.
- If avocados are small, add a little sour cream to increase volume without diluting flavor.
