Habanero Chili Paste Recipe
Description
The Habanero Chili Paste brings fresh habanero peppers together with olive oil, garlic, basil, cilantro, cumin, salt, and black pepper to produce a spicy and fragrant paste. Processing the fresh ingredients into a fine paste concentrates their heat and flavor. Basil and cilantro add herbal brightness that balances the strong chili flavor.
The preparation allows adjusting oil or water to create the preferred texture, from thick to slightly thinner. This paste can enhance sauces, marinades, or dishes needing a kick of heat and herbal complexity.
It is important to store the paste properly; refrigerate in an airtight container and use within about a week. This chili paste can also be frozen and thawed as needed without losing its potency.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup olive oil
- ½ cup basil parsley is good too, fresh
- ½ cup cilantro fresh
- 4 cloves garlic peeled
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1 teaspoon cumin ground
- 20 habanero pepper stems removed
- water as needed
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in processor and blend until very finely processed. Or, use a molcajete and grind everything up into a paste.
- Add in more oil or a bit of water if you'd like a more consistent paste.
- Transfer to an air tight container and refrigerate.
Notes
- Keep the chili paste refrigerated and use within about one week for best flavor.
- You may freeze the paste in airtight containers and thaw portions as needed.
