Halloumi Fries

Halloumi Fries are crispy, golden sticks of halloumi cheese coated in flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs, then baked until the coating crisps up. The frying-style breading offers a crunchy exterior paired with the halloumi's naturally salty and slightly squeaky texture, making it a distinct alternative to traditional fries. These are best served warm as a snack or appetizer and can be enjoyed with dips or alongside salads.

Description

Halloumi Fries involve cutting halloumi cheese into sticks, then coating them in flour, followed by beaten egg, and finishing with panko breadcrumbs. Baking at 350°F allows the breadcrumbs to crisp while the cheese inside softens but holds its shape, producing a satisfying contrast of textures. The crunchy panko develops a golden crust that complements the firm, salty cheese. This preparation highlights halloumi's unique texture which withstands baking without melting completely. The coating process ensures an even crust that browns nicely in the oven.

These fries can serve as a simple appetizer or a side dish, pairing well with fresh salads or dipping sauces to balance the richness. Their saltiness and crunchy coating make them stand out among cheese snacks.

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consumed within two to three days to maintain optimal texture and flavor. Halloumi cheese can often be found in specialty dairy sections or Middle Eastern groceries and is becoming more available in mainstream stores.
