Halloween Jello Shots

Halloween Jello Shots present layered gelatin treats combining black cherry and orange gelatin mixes with vodka for a festive, boozy party addition. The black layer uses cherry coke and optional food coloring to deepen the visual effect, while the orange layer complements it with bright gelatin. Chilled until firm in shot glasses, these shots feature smooth, flavored layers perfect for seasonal gatherings.

Description

These jello shots start by preparing a black cherry layer with black cherry gelatin powder dissolved in boiling cherry coke with optional black food coloring, mixed with cold cherry coke and vodka. This mixture is poured into shot glasses and chilled until partially set.

The orange layer is made by dissolving orange gelatin powder in boiling water, then mixing in cold water and vodka before pouring over the black cherry layer. The shots are chilled until fully firm, typically over 1 1/2 hours.

The layering creates distinct colored jello shots with a smooth texture and vibrantly flavored cherry and citrus notes combined with vodka. The recipe suggests using a turkey baster or measuring spoon for easier pouring into cups and chilling the cups on a sheet pan for stability.

These shots suit Halloween celebrations, serving about 20 two-ounce portions, and garnishing options like sprinkles or whipped cream add to their festive appeal.

Ingredients

Servings

For the black layer

  • 3 ounce box black cherry jello
  • 1 1/2 cups cherry coke divided use
  • 4 drops black food coloring optional
  • 1/2 cup vodka

For the orange layer

  • 3 ounce box orange gelatin mix
  • 1 1/2 cups water divided use
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • Whipped Cream for garnish
  • Halloween sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

For the black layer

  1. Heat one cup of Cherry Coke on the stove until it's boiling. Chill the remaining 1/2 of soda in the fridge.
  2. Pour the boiling soda into a medium bowl containing the black cherry gelatin and whisk the mixture until the powder is completely dissolved. Stir in the black food coloring if using.
  3. Pour in the 1/2 cup of cold Coke and whisk to combine.
  4. Add the vodka and whisk until thoroughly blended.
  5. Fill 20 two-ounce shot glasses or plastic cups halfway with the black Jello. Chill for at least one hour.

For the orange layer

  1. Place the orange Jello powder in a medium bowl. Boil one cup of the water on the stove, then pour the boiling water on top of the Jello.
  2. Whisk until the powder dissolves.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of cold water to the gelatin mixture and whisk again.
  4. Stir in the vodka and whisk once more.
  5. Pour the orange Jello on top of the black Jello layer in the shot cups.
  6. Chill for at least 1 1/2 hours or until shots are firm.
  7. When you're ready to serve the shots, top them with some whipped cream and sprinkles, then serve immediately.

Notes

  • Place shot glasses on a sheet pan before filling to easily transfer them to the refrigerator.
  • Use a turkey baster or measuring spoon to evenly and neatly pour the jello mixture into the cups.
