Ham and Cheese Pinwheels
Description
The recipe involves whipping softened cream cheese with mayonnaise, brown mustard, prepared horseradish, salt, roasted garlic, and sugar to form a flavorful spread. This mixture is evenly spread over large flour tortillas, providing a creamy base. On top, thawed and thoroughly drained spinach adds a mild green note, followed by slices of deli ham and Swiss cheese arranged near one edge. These layers combine into a rolled-up spiral, chilled wrapped in plastic to firm up. Once set, the rolls are sliced into 3/4-inch pieces, revealing distinctive pinwheels combining creamy, savory, and fresh elements.
The cooling step helps the pinwheels hold their shape when sliced, creating neat rounds suitable for serving as appetizers or snack platters. The balance of cream cheese spread with mustard and horseradish alongside the salty ham and mellow Swiss cheese is complemented by spinach's gentle bitterness. This recipe suits preparation ahead of time and can be garnished with pickles, olives, or cherry tomatoes for presentation.
These pinwheels offer a convenient make-ahead option for parties or light meals, combining familiar deli ingredients in a portable and easily portioned format. The flavorful spread and inclusion of spinach add a layer of taste and texture that elevates simple turkey and cheese rolls.
