Ham and Cheese Slider Recipe
Description
The Ham and Cheese Slider Recipe combines deli ham and Swiss cheese tucked inside sweet slider buns sliced as a whole sheet for easy assembly. A glaze made from melted butter mixed with brown sugar, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper is brushed over the tops and poured into the gaps before baking. The baking process softens the rolls while melting the cheese and warming the ham, resulting in sandwiches with gooey, slightly sweet, and savory flavors enhanced by the tangy glaze. Cooking in a 9x13 dish ensures even warmth and easy slicing into individual sliders after baking. The recipe includes storage tips for refrigerating or freezing fully baked sliders and reheating them either in the oven or microwave, maintaining convenience and taste for future meals.
Ingredients
- 12 sweet slider buns
- ¾ pound deli ham honey or leftover Easter ham works well, sliced
- ¾ pound swiss cheese
Glaze
- 1 tick butter unsalted
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- pinch black pepper
Instructions
- Lightly spray a 9x13 inch dish with baking spray. Cut the sweet rolls in half. Don't attempt to do this individually, use your biggest serrated knife and slice the entire sheet. Place the bottom layer snuggly into the bottom of the dish.
- Place half of the cheese over the top, layer with ham, then the remaining cheese.
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, add the butter and heat until melted. Stir in brown sugar, dijon, poppy seeds, onion powder, worcestershire, salt, and black pepper.
- Brush over the tops of the rolls. Pour the excess in between and in all of the nooks and crannies.
- Cover with aluminum foil and let sit while the oven preheats. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes. Remove and serve immediately.
Notes
- Prepare the slider buns as a whole sheet by slicing them together horizontally to keep assembly efficient.
- Fully baked sliders can be stored tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- When freezing, wrap the pan with plastic and aluminum foil, keep the glaze separated, and thaw before reheating.
- Reheat frozen or refrigerated sliders by warming the glaze and pouring it over before baking covered with foil to restore flavor and moisture.
