Ham and Cheese Sliders
Description
Ham and Cheese Sliders feature sliced slider buns layered with deli ham and Swiss cheese. The buns are sliced horizontally and assembled as whole bottom and top slabs to keep the sandwiches connected during baking. The topping combines melted butter, honey mustard, dried minced onions, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds, which is brushed over the assembled sliders before baking at 350°F.
Baking covered allows the cheese to melt and flavors to meld, while a brief uncovered finishing bake crisps the tops slightly. The sliders emerge soft but fully heated through with a balanced sweet and savory glaze. They can be sliced into individual servings after baking.
These sliders make a good choice for parties or quick meals. They can be assembled up to 4 hours ahead and baked from refrigerated. Swapping ham for turkey or adding jalapenos and pepper jack cheese adds variety. Plan about two sliders per guest when serving at events.
Storing leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheating before serving is effective, and extending bake time slightly from cold state ensures thorough warming.
Ingredients
- 12 slider buns
- 11 oz ham or any sliced deli ham, Hillshire Farm® Premium Carved Slow Roasted Seasoned
- 8 lices swiss cheese
- 1/4 c. butter melted
- 1 Tbsp honey mustard
- 2 tsp onion dried, minced
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp poppy seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x9 or 9x13 inch pan. Set aside.
- Slice slider buns horizontally and arrange the bottom of the buns in baking dish. Slice them as a "slab" do not pull them apart in individual buns because you want to keep them connected.
- Layer 1/2 the ham on the rolls, top with cheese and then the rest of the ham. Top with the top "slab" of buns.
- In a bowl combine melted butter, honey mustard, dried minced onions, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk to combine.
- Evenly and slowly pour the mixture over the rolls. Use a silicone brush to evenly distribute over the tops of the buns.
- Cover pan with aluminum foil. Let buns stand for 5 minutes. Then place in preheated oven and bake covered for 20 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.
- Remove from oven, take aluminum foil off and put back in oven. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes or until cooked to desired doneness.
- Remove from oven, slice into individual sliders and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute turkey for ham or add pepper jack cheese with jalapenos for a spicy variation.
- Assemble sliders up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate; increase baking time by about 5 minutes when baking cold.
- Plan approximately 2 sliders per person for parties or gatherings.
