Ham and Manchego Waffles

Ham and Manchego Waffles combine cornmeal and all-purpose flour to create a lightly crisped waffle base enriched with buttermilk and eggs. The addition of finely diced smoked ham and shredded Manchego cheese adds savory depth and a pleasant salty sharpness. These waffles have a firm yet tender texture, suitable for breakfast or brunch, and can be enjoyed with a drizzle of maple syrup and butter for contrasting sweet and savory notes.

Description

Ham and Manchego Waffles blend yellow cornmeal and all-purpose flour with baking powder and baking soda to produce a waffle batter that crisps nicely when cooked. The batter is moistened with buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter, which enrich the texture and flavor. Finely diced smoked ham and shredded Manchego cheese are folded into the batter, introducing a smoky, savory component and a tangy, nutty cheese element. Cooking in a waffle iron yields waffles with a browned, crisp exterior and tender interior. Serving suggestions include butter and maple syrup, balancing the savory richness with subtle sweetness. These waffles work well for a hearty breakfast or brunch where a fusion of sweet and savory flavors is welcome.
