Ham and Swiss Sliders

Ham and Swiss Sliders are savory mini sandwiches assembled with Hawaiian rolls, layers of ham and Swiss cheese, topped with a buttery sauce infused with Dijon mustard, minced onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Baked until warm and melty, these sliders offer soft bread with a gooey, flavorful filling, suitable as appetizers or casual snacks.

Description

These sliders start by slicing Hawaiian rolls horizontally and layering each bottom half with one or two slices of quality ham and Swiss cheese. The roll tops are replaced to cover the fillings. A sauce made of melted salted butter blended with Dijon mustard, dried minced onion, and Worcestershire sauce is poured over the assembled sandwiches. Allowing the sliders to rest enables the sauce to soak into the rolls before baking.

Baking at 350°F for about 15 minutes warms the sandwiches through and melts the cheese, yielding soft roll exteriors and a flavorful, moist interior layered by ham and melted Swiss cheese. The combination balances the sweetness of the rolls with the savory tanginess of the ham and cheese and the butter-mustard sauce.

These sliders can be made ahead and refrigerated with sauce applied for up to two days before baking or frozen for up to three months with sauce applied and covered well. Reheating from frozen requires slightly longer baking time to achieve the warm and gooey result.

This recipe yields 12 sliders; serving size is one sandwich slider each.Prepare the sliders ahead by assembling, adding the sauce, and refrigerating for up to two days before baking. For freezing, assemble and sauce the sliders, cover carefully with sprayed foil, and freeze up to three months; bake from frozen about 18-25 minutes until golden and cheese melts.
