Ham Egg and Cheese Bake with English Muffins
Description
The casserole assembles layers of cubed English muffins combined with ham and cheddar cheese in a greased dish. A blend of eggs, heavy cream, salt, and black pepper is whisked and poured over to saturate the layers. Baking covered at 350°F allows custard formation through gentle heat, while removing the cover for the final 15 minutes browns the top and crisps edges slightly.
The result is a rich, creamy bake with a tender interior where bread soaks up the custard and flavors meld from the ham and cheese. It's suitable for serving as a hearty breakfast or brunch item. Letting it cool before serving helps it to set for cleaner slices.
This casserole can be assembled the day before. Prepare the layers and refrigerate covered, keeping the egg-cream mixture separately refrigerated. Before baking, pour eggs over and proceed with baking instructions.
