Ham Salad
Description
The Ham Salad starts with cooking ham finely chopped in a food processor to a coarse texture that is not paste-like. This provides a sturdy bite but blends easily with mayonnaise for a creamy consistency. Mayonnaise combines with spicy Dijon mustard, sweet relish, chopped dill pickles, sliced green onion, and a splash of dill pickle juice to season and moisten the ham. Black pepper adds subtle heat. The addition of diced celery folded in last contributes crispness and freshness to the salad.
This salad balances savory ham with tangy, slightly sweet, and creamy elements, making it a versatile filling. It's suitable for sandwiches, crackers, or as a party dip. The flavors meld well and the texture is pleasantly varied from smooth to crunchy bits.
No special serving tips are needed beyond chilling to allow flavors to blend. The recipe can be adjusted in mayonnaise or relish quantity to taste or texture preference.
