Hamburger Steak with Mushroom Gravy

This Hamburger Steak with Mushroom Gravy recipe combines seasoned ground beef patties cooked until browned and topped with a rich mushroom gravy. The gravy incorporates cremini mushrooms, onions, garlic, butter, and beef broth thickened with flour, seasoned with Worcestershire and soy sauce for depth. The result is a hearty, savory dish with tender meat and a flavorful sauce that complements the beef.

Description

The recipe first forms ground beef mixed with breadcrumbs, finely minced onion, Italian seasoning, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper into oval-shaped patties. These are seared in olive oil until browned on both sides and set aside to keep warm. The gravy preparation begins by sautéing sliced cremini mushrooms and chopped onions in butter with seasoning until softened and lightly browned. Minced garlic is added briefly before flour is stirred in to create a roux that thickens the sauce.

Beef broth is slowly whisked into the roux followed by Worcestershire and soy sauce, simmering until thickened. The cooked hamburger steaks are returned to the pan, coated with the mushroom gravy, and warmed through. Garnishing with chopped parsley adds a fresh touch. This method ensures both the meat and gravy are cooked to enhance the savory flavors while maintaining the patties’ juiciness.

This dish can be served with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables to complement its robust flavors and hearty texture. It's suitable for a comforting dinner and can be prepared with lean beef as indicated for balance.
