Ingredients

Servings

Steak

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 small onion finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • salt
  • black pepper

Gravy

  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup water cold
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until fully combined.
  2. Form the mix into 4 individual patties. Season each side with salt and pepper.
  3. Place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the olive oil and butter to a skillet over medium high heat.
  5. Remove the patties from the refrigerator and add them to the skillet.
  6. Sear the patties for 3 minutes on each side.
  7. Remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
  8. Turn the heat down to medium and begin making the gravy.
  9. Add the butter to the skillet. Once it's melted, add in the onions.
  10. Cook, stirring occasionally until the onions have softened.
  11. Add in the beef stock, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  12. Stir until everything is combined. Be sure to scrape all the little bits from the bottom.
  13. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the cold water to make a slurry.
  14. Add the slurry to the gravy, whisking to combine.
  15. Add the steaks back to the skillet and cover them with the gravy.
  16. Turn the heat down to a low simmer and cover it with a lid.
  17. Let them finish cooking through, about 10-12 minutes.
  18. Once they're done, serve over mashed potatoes and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't leave the steak in the skillet to sear for too long. You don't want to overcook them.
